A Preview of
KDE 4.4
"A
highly anticipated release, KDE 4.4 has taken necessary steps to
solidify the underlying Plasma technology of KDE 4 and add polish to
the already shiny surface. This week, MakeTechEasier will take you on a
preview of the upcoming KDE 4.4 release, scheduled for February 9. I
recently installed Release Candidate 1 on my desktop computer and took
it for a spin. I was not disappointed.

Firefox 3.6
brings joy to Web devs, not just users
"Mozilla's Firefox got a bit
hotter today with the official release of version 3.6, a noteworthy
update of the popular open source Web browser. It's an incremental
improvement that introduces a modest assortment of new features and
expands the browser's support for emerging Web standards. It will add
fuel to the fire as the flame-throwing fox continues to scorch Internet
Explorer's declining marketshare, bringing more choice and openness to
the Web."

Ode to
Slackware
"I have a place
reserved in my heart that only Slackware Linux fills. Strange as it
might be, Slackware was the first Linux distribution that seemed to
understand me and, I it. I recently read an article which brought to
mind, the time that I started my venture into the Linux community as a
new user."

The GNU/Linux
“Chicken Little” Syndrome
"You
know the type. The technical reporter that tries to do something on
GNU/Linux, cannot figure it out and thus states to the planet the
equivalent of Chicken Little saying, “The sky is falling!”, regarding
GNU/Linux. We see them over and over coming back to the same point,
“Until ‘Linux’ solves [insert the technical reporter's failure to do
something here], it won’t be ready for prime time.” What a crock of
compost."

Packages
and
Kernel
The development
continues. After several problems building the initrd I finally have
the base of the system finished or almost finished as we have a new
kernel patch and I will upgrade it during this week. I had to rebuild
Busybox and upgrade most of the Linuxlive applications and libraries to
make it works. After this step, I will upgrade some packages, check
Slackware again and build the first ISO for tests.
Themes
and Website
Even though
nowadays most of the work is preparing the system I also made the logo
and started to check the new website. For now the idea is just prepare
a blog to fill our users with news.
