completing a school semester with Linux
"For
those of you who have read my profile, you know that I’m finishing up
my math degree. More specifically, I’ve just finished lectures for my
last term as an undergraduate student of statistics. One of my main
fears about switching to a different operating system was that it would
disrupt my studies. Fortunately, this fear was unfounded – in fact, I
can confidently say that Linux actually made my school experience much
easier and smoother than it would have been had I stuck with Windows
Vista or XP."

Linux Is
Regaining Netbook Market Share Quickly
"Back in May I
wrote an article titled Linux To Regain 50% Netbook Market Share after
such predictions were made by Stephen Lim of Linpus Technologies and
ABI Research. Mr. Lim saw Linux pulling even with Windows on netbooks
by next year while ABI Research saw it happening by 2013. Both saw
netbooks powered by ARM processors as the main reason that Linux would
rebound."

What's new in
Linux 2.6.32
"3D support for
newer Radeon graphics chips, better use of power saving features
offered by the latest hardware and numerous enhancements to KVM and
Btrfs are some of the outstanding items among the many thousands of
changes undertaken for the latest kernel version. Various other
improvements should also make Linux 2.6.32 more reactive and as a
result, feel faster."

Open Source
Projects and the Meritocracy Myth
"
"This is not a democracy, it's a meritocracy."
The statement comes from the Ubuntu Governance page, but you can find
similar statements in the Fedora Release Notes, the Why Debian For
Developers page, and just about anywhere else were free and open source
software (FOSS) projects discuss their core values."

Packages
and New Possibilities
The development
continues around building packages for the next project. During last
week I started to compile some new applications including several games
and also Moblin packages. In the near future I hope we will have the
possibility to choose between GNOME, KDE and Xfce and also make a
choice about the Netbook interface of our preference. For Xfce, Moblin
seems to be the best choice, and KDE 4.4 will have a Plasma Netbook
interface.
There is no much
about the GoblinX I can add. I am dedicating all my time to build
packages. We are near to also start upgrade the Kernel.
