Interview with
Eric Hameleers: Why You Should Try Slackware
"Slackware
is one of the first Linux distributions ever and the oldest surviving.
With the recent release of version 13.0, the project has announced
official support for 64-bit systems. Linux Magazine talks to Eric
Hameleers, the man behind the port, about what motivated him to create
it and what Slackware has to offer you."

GIMP 2.8 will yet be released 2009, so it has been time to have a look

Kernel 2.6.31

"With
the next version of the Linux kernel, 2.6.31, due for release soon,
Linux desktop users can look forward to a faster experience in addition

G:Noblin
3.0
We will release
GNoblin 3.0 final probably tomorrow. There is only an importante bug -
may I say not really a bug but a problem - with a Xorg driver. XF86
Intel driver does not work propertly with kernels below 2.6.28 and we
cannot upgrade the livecd kernel right now because some issues with
AuFS and the missing LZMA compression for Squashfs. Anyone with an
Intel videocard must rebuild the ISO and use the old a.NX11 module we
will reupload as a.NX11-3.0-i486-2.lzm. This solution will also be
adopted for G:Standard as we decided not downgrade the Xorg only
because of this driver.
G:Noblin can be
described as our less stable distribution. GNOME is not part of
Slackware and we have to build everything by ourselves using borrowed
builds from other projects. GoblinX is not used as much Slackware is
and the we receive only
few reports
about issues. For these reasons G:Noblin is problably less stable.
Personally, I am using G:Noblin for the past months without problems
and I think it is a good distribution, specially for netbook owners.
G:Noblin is going
to be release using GNOME 2.24 because upgrade right now will take at
least two months for testing. We will upgrade GNOME after 2.28 is
released in the end of this month.
