Linuxlive/GoblinX Features

AuFS

The AuFS filesystem is writable, it means you can modify all areas of the filesystem without any restrictions. Your changes to the read-only parts are transparently copied to the writable branch and stored. The system will autodetect whether it runs from a writable media or not. If a writable media is detect, all your changes will be automatically saved.

Persistent Changes

GoblinX, like Slax, does not limited you to just use a persistent home directory because the whole root filesystem is fully writable, it means you have a 'persistent changes' rather then 'persistent home' known from other live distributions.

Posixovl

Posixovl, as the name states, is used to overlay a filesystem by posix features. There are many filesystems which lack some posix functionality such as mode attributes, links or devices. It will be used if the filesystem where GoblinX boots from supports posix features. It means if you install GoblinX to your USB device formated with ext2, posixovl is not necessary, but if your USB is formated using some other VFAT, FAT32 or NTFS, it will be overlayed by posixovl. In few words: All changes are saved also in FAT32 usb devices.

Automatically Save Changes

If you boot it from USB drive or any other writable media, it will detect it. On the USB you’ll have directories ‘boot’ and ’goblinx’. During boot time will be created ’goblinx/changes’ directory and all changes will be saved there. No need for the configsave. No need for fixed-size loop filesystems. No need for partitioning your USB device to add special partition for changes.

Webmount

Webmount is a protocol prepared over the Slik from Slax to let you use module (lzm) from the web via httpfs while running LiveCD and include it into live directory structure on the fly.
The idea is from Manfred Mueller, Thomas Schoenhuetl and Tomas Matecijek, implemented if few modifications on GoblinX. Webmount lets you use any application on web compressed inside lzm module without download it. In few words: Use application directly from the server without download it.
