GoblinX
Applications
Liveremaster
The Liveremaster is a gtkdialog that
allows you to rebuild/remaster a
new GoblinX ISO for you. It has a preview prepared data folder
of the modular system and several costumized options. You can add and
remove modules, change the ISO name, change boot parameters, save root
and extra settings and edit the ISO image before compress it.
Magic
Center
The Magic
Center brings to you an easy and fast way to configure and personalize
your distro. Magic Center is a control center for many activities and
fast access to
settings, configurations and programs. It allows you to easily costumize the
livecd or install edition.
The
gtkConvert and gtkEmods
The
gtkConvert
is used to convert
modules back to directory or into packages, also it can convert .rpm
and .tgz packages into modules. The gtkEmods
is used to rebuild modules if you wish to add or remove applications
from them.
Media
Manager
The Media Manager is a series of small applications and
script running on your system to help you mount and access devices such
as USB pendrives, DVDs and CDROMS. You can anytime disable this
feature.
Other
Interfaces
There are also several interfaces to help you. The gtkDSL to
create and connect to DSL
accounts, gtkHDInstall
to
install GoblinX to your harddisk, gtkSwaps
to create and enable memory swap files, gtkSource to
help during
compilation of source package and more.
Linuxlive/GoblinX
Features
AuFS
The AuFS filesystem
is writable, it means you can modify all areas of the filesystem
without any restrictions. Your changes to the read-only parts are
transparently copied to the writable branch and stored. The system will
autodetect whether it runs from a writable media or not. If a writable
media is detect, all your changes will be automatically saved.
Persistent
Changes
GoblinX, like Slax, does not limited
you to just use a persistent home directory because the whole root
filesystem is fully writable, it means you have a 'persistent changes'
rather then 'persistent home' known from other live distributions.
Posixovl
Posixovl,
as the name states, is used to overlay a filesystem by posix features.
There are many filesystems which lack some posix functionality such as
mode attributes, links or devices. It will be used if the filesystem
where GoblinX boots
from supports posix features. It means if you install GoblinX to your
USB device formated with ext2, posixovl is not necessary, but if your
USB is formated using some other VFAT, FAT32 or NTFS, it will be
overlayed by posixovl. In few words: All changes are
saved also in FAT32 usb devices.
Automatically
Save Changes
If
you boot it from USB drive or any other writable media, it will detect
it. On the USB you’ll have directories ‘boot’ and ’goblinx’. During
boot time will be created ’goblinx/changes’ directory and all changes
will be saved there. No need for the configsave. No need for fixed-size
loop filesystems. No need for partitioning your USB device to add
special partition for changes.
Webmount
Webmount
is a protocol prepared over the Slik from Slax to let you use module
(lzm)
from the web via httpfs while running LiveCD and include it into live
directory structure on the fly.
The idea is from Manfred Mueller, Thomas Schoenhuetl and Tomas
Matecijek, implemented if few modifications on GoblinX. Webmount lets
you use any application on web compressed inside lzm module without
download it. In few words: Use application
directly from the server without download it.
Great
Applications
The
Gimp
The Gimp deserves
a
special note and a series of applauses therefore almost all the
graphical work used by the GoblinX was made in this program. The Gimp
is an excellent editor of images, excellent for graphical works and
corrections in photos and images. It is an Open Source five stars
program.
Firefox
One of the most
famous navigators for personal computers, with excellent resources as
popups’ blocker and much more. Firefox (formerly known as Phoenix and
Firebird)
is a redesign of the Mozilla browser component. It
is similar to Galeon, K-Meleon, and Chimera, but
it is written using the XUL user interface
language and was designed to be cross-platform.
K3b
K3b
is a CD and DVD burning application for Linux
systems optimized for
KDE. It provides a comfortable user interface to perform most CD/DVD
burning tasks, such as creating an audio CD from a set of audio files
or copying a CD. While the experienced user can influence all steps of
the burning process, the beginner may find comfort in the automatic
settings and the reasonable defaults which allow a quick start.

supports a wide range of
codecs and file formats, including MPEG 1/2/4, DivX 3/4/5, Windows

has many MMX/SSE(2)/3Dnow(Ex) optimized native audio and video codecs,
but allows using XAnim's and RealPlayer's binary codec plugins, and
Win32 codec DLLs. It has basic VCD/DVD playback functionality,
including DVD subtitles, but supports many text-based subtitle formats
