Merry Christmas!! The GoblinX Project is proud to announce the first beta of the next stable release. The G:Micro 3.0 beta 01 is released. The g:Micro, formerly known as GoblinX Micro, is the smallest distribution and contains only Fluxbox as windows manager and GTK/GTK2 based applications.

This G:Micro edition combines the simplicity and lightness of the Fluxbox with a brand new media management system based on GVFS and Nautilus. The desktop starts with Conky, Nautilus and Idesk enabled by default. Alltray is used to dock Nautilus and icons when usb devices are mounted. Xmms and PcManFM are added together with some libraries. Almost all applications are upgraded including Kernel(2.6.27.6), Linuxlive(6.2.9), AuFS(1.89) and SquashFS(3.4). Below there is a list with the most important changes and some screenshots of the system.

The g.Micro is available as an ISO image of the CD, you just need to download and burn it with your favorite cd-writing software and then boot from cd-rom. For USB is distributed as a ZIP archive. Simply unzip it to your USB device and run bootinst.bat (for Windows users) or bootinst.sh (for Linux users) to make it bootable.

ChangeLog G:Micro 3.0 beta01

  • Upgraded Kernel(2.6.27.6), Linuxlive(6.2.9), AuFS(1.89) and SquashFS(3.4).
  • Upgraded almost all packages and libraries.
  • Added Alltray, Fbpanel, Gegl, PCManFM, Radeontool, Sqlite3, Xmms and more.
  • Archives for static linking (*.a) moved to devel module.
  • Removed Tuxonice Suspend2.
  • Added GVFS and Nautilus as media manager
  • Media manager uses autorun option for usb storage devices.
  • Fstab is not anymore create during boot. HAL is going to manage mount points. During both HAL is going to set volume label for all partitions if it cannot find them.
  • Disabled Ivman as media manager. Ivman only includes an icon on systemtray to let you umount your usb pendrive.
  • Upgraded Harddisk installer and gtkAPTlzm.
  • Upgraded all themes and backgrounds.
  • Conky System Monitor is started by default.
  • Added three more cron jobs for logrotate daily in order to compress log files.
  • Nautilus computer: is started by default to work as volume (media) manager. It will be added to Fluxbox system tray by Alltray.

ChangeLog Linuxlive 6.2.9

  • Added support to start GoblinX as a PXE server (in the boot menu)
  • Loadlin didn’t work anymore due to big filesize of vmlinuz and initrd. It has been replaced by linLd, which allows us to boot GoblinX from DOS again.
  • Autodetect and automount LVM partitions. Suppress by ‘noauto’ boot parameter
  • Cleanum /union/mnt/ directory (delete all empty directories every boot)
  • Implemented a posixovl workaround, which executes ‘find’ on the directory with changes. This may slow down the boot a bit, but it seems to be enough in order to make sure the posixovl filesystem behaves correctly all the time. It initiates correct caches and doesn’t make aufs confused anymore.
