g:Mini
The g:Mini formely known as ‘GoblinX Mini Edition‘ is the son of GoblinX and contains only XFCE as the windows manager and GTK/GTK2 based applications. The edition is ideal for those users whose want to remaster the distro or with difficulties in downloading more than three hundred of megabytes (the original size of g:Standard). The g:Mini will have newer versions released a lot faster and it will be also used for testing and for system and hardware support improvements.
The g:Mini ISO image is around one hundred and fifty megabytes (english customized edition), but it still contains an excellent source of applications.
The small size lets you easily download and remaster the ISO file, which makes g:Mini more suited for users whose want to have their own customized GoblinX.
The distribution also is being used for testing and all applications not based on QT libraries will be tested first by the mini edition, and in turn these tests will make the main distro more stable. Try out the g:Mini, make it your small Linux LiveCD and save memory, you can also use a minicd or other device to burn it .
The g:Mini contains some of the most often used and praised applications for Linux, even though it has less than one hundred and fifty megabytes of size. Some of these best Linux applications included are: Abiword, Firefox, Pidgin Gcalctool, GXine, Gimp, Gnumeric, Hardinfo, Audacious, Xfburn, Epdfview, Claws Mail, Ucview and more.
The g:Mini is fully compatible with any other GoblinX Project distributions and uses the same repository. You will be able to install more than a thousand applications and libraries even by starting with this small distribution.
The g:Mini is distributed using two different images, one full distribution without remove any files including all locales (internationalization files), and a second customized image only with default english language and without man pages, documentation, headers (.h), some themes and files.
In order to enable your own language with g:Mini full you must press TAB just after you select an Isolinux menu item and type a paramater, for example, i18n=de_DE to start using deutsche language. You need to know your locale alias to start using your favorite language. This method will use gettext to change the default language and only few applications will continue using english.
The g.Mini is available as an ISO image of the CD, you just need to download and burn it with your favorite cd-writing software and then boot from cd-rom. For USB is distributed as a ZIP archive. Simply unzip it to your USB device and run bootinst.bat (for Windows users) or bootinst.sh (for Linux users) to make it bootable. It is lso available the source code repository.
